This work explores ideas of the “American Dream” as I look at childhood in a Mexican-American family. By looking back at my own childhood I am reminded how American society pushes white as the epitome of success and happiness. I could be whatever I wanted to be when I grew up, but images of white successes and white families were primarily represented in media. So what happens to the children who are told they can be whatever they want to be when they grow up, but they can never be the white images they have been conditioned to believe is success.
