Process shots of “Softness” 2018 and “Steel” 2018

My name is Monique A. Ramirez. I am a Mexican-American multi-media artist primarily working in photography, digital media, body paint, and silkscreen. My work revolves around identity and the societal structures in which “self” is developed. The ideas of gender and race as social constructs which oppress marginalized groups are also explored through my current body of work.
Concepts by philosophers like Judith Butler, Marilyn Frye, and John Berger helped develop my body of work Object.able (2019); the hard edge aesthetic qualities of graphic designers such as commercial artist Malika Favre influence the majority of my body painting work.

I have recently received my Bachelor of Fine Arts from Indiana University Northwest, where I was awarded 2nd place in a juried Student Art Exhibition 2018 and received the Outstanding Fine Arts BFA Major and Omicron Sigma Delta in 2019.
